St. Lawrence County Public Transit, operated by The Arc Jefferson - St. Lawrence, launched the “College Connector” line open to students and the general public to travel among the following campuses: SUNY Canton, Clarkson University, and SUNY Potsdam. The route connects each college’s bus line via a hub at Walmart in Potsdam and runs seven days a week.

St. Lawrence County’s Coordinated Transportation Plan was prepared to identify cost-effective
approaches to address public transportation gaps; minimize the duplication of transportation
services; and help improve the coordination of transportation services for persons with
disabilities, older residents, individuals with lower incomes, and for college students.

Due to public interest, the County intends to hold the continuation of a public hearing to give the public the opportunity to comment on St. Lawrence County’s draft Coordinated Transportation Plan. The public hearing will begin at a Public Transit Task Force meeting on Thursday, March 21st at 1:00 pm in the banquet room of the Best Western. The public hearing will continue during evening hours on Monday, March 25th at 7:00 pm in the courtroom of the Canton Municipal Building. Staff from the County Planning Office, and the County’s Mobility Manager will provide an overview of the Transportation Plan. The Plan includes background information about the County, its current bus system, known transportation gaps, and goals and actions to improve public transit in St. Lawrence County.

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: A public hearing has been scheduled to give the public the opportunity to comment on St. Lawrence County’s draft Coordinated Transportation Plan. The public hearing will be held on Thursday, March 21st at 1 pm at the Best Western Hotel in Canton. During the public hearing, staff from the County Planning Office, and Frank Doldo the County’s Mobility Manager, with Volunteer Transportation Center, Inc. (VTC), will provide an overview of the Transportation Plan. The Plan includes background information about the County, its current bus system, known transportation gaps, and goals and actions to improve public transit in St. Lawrence County.

Legal Notice: Public Hearing on 03/21/2019 for St. Lawrence County’s Coordinated Transportation Plan.
St. Lawrence County is preparing a Coordinated Transportation Plan that identifies existing public transportation gaps and ways to increase bus ridership in St. Lawrence County.
Once adopted, the Coordinated Transportation Plan will be used as a guide by the County, its Mobility Manager, and by its bus operator on how to address public transportation gaps over the next five years. The draft Plan is posted here.
LOCAL RUNNER CAPTURES DOUBLE CROSS ULTRA-RUN OF ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY
54 year old Canton runner Dan Dominie added to his growing list of personal adventure runs by completing a 162 mile double crossing of St. Lawrence County on foot in 6 days recently. Averaging 27 miles a day for 6 consecutive days, Dominie ran and walked from a starting point in Ogdensburg on October 5th, proceeded to the Jefferson County border outside of Oxbow by way of Morristown and Hammond, then back across the County to the Franklin County border outside of Rooseveltown via route through Gouverneur, Canton and Norwood before finishing the journey Ogdensburg to Massena on October 10th.
